Mannflóran is looking for young people of foreign origin age 14-25 yrs to participate in a workshop on anti-racism as part of the European Action Week Against Racism. Mannréttindaskrifstofa Íslands / Icelandic Human Rights Centre manages the European Action Week against Racism in Iceland, and the results of the workshop will be used as part of a social media campaign to raise awareness of the initiative.

The Icelandic Human Rights Centre will be joined by Mailu Niehaus who will do an internship with us in September

The project, entitled Civil Society Network in the Context of UN's Sustainable Development Goals in Greece, covers i.a. that how to mobilize the volunteers of non-governmental organizations.

A persons thoughts affect only him/her and not other people unless he/she expresses them or acts them out. Then these thoughts set events in motion which are likely to have effect. Therefore it is always important to take words seriously and listen, because it may become necessary to react when words do not express positive thoughts or views, but harmful, demeaning and hateful opinions towards a specific individual or a group of individuals. If not counteracted, hate speech will gradually be normalised and accepted. We catch new words and shortly they become part of the day to day discourse. Words are also the first tool we use to change attitudes, norms, dos and donts in our society.

As a part of an Erasmus+ Programme, "Bridge builders", the Icelandic Human Rights Centre has developed a Guidance for conducting interviews and cultural sensitive information

Today, a new brochure on hate speech is published electronically in all the Nordic countries simultaneously.

On October 18th the Icelandic Human Rights Centre received visitors from the Euro-Qvorum Institute for Participatory Democracy and European Institute from Romania.

The Icelandic Human Rights Office takes part in a two years project called Local Intersectoral Policies on Integration of Immigrants.
